HOA board meeting with Detective Stewart on 4/30/2024

Present: Scott Dastrup, Scott Ingham, Brent Anderson, Jean Stephenson along with Detective Marie Stewart

Special meeting scheduled with SLC detective Marie Stewart to increase communication with the city and the police department and find out what we can do as homeowners to help improve the neighborhood.

Detective Stewart is the community Liaison for Districts 3 and 4. She reported that homeless issues and drug use are a result of the cleanup of the Rio Grande District.

She reported that police patrols have increased. Two shifts of police are now assigned to our block. One shift is during the day and the other is 4pm to 2am. This later shift is a bike squad. Goal is to take out the drug dealers and these deals usually happen during daytime.

Biggest drawback is the court system, which allows those involved to get right back out on the street.

Salt Lake City police also have a homeless squad program. (HOST)

The city is looking at leasing the park strips in the front, which would make it easier to deal with some of the homeless issues. In the meantime, please call the Police non-emergency line if there are tents on the park strips. (801-799-3000)

Scott Dastrup is asking our lawyer to write a letter to the corporate landlord for the 7-11 asking them to take responsibility for cleaning up their property.

Look at the SLCPD web site for open data to check out crime statistics.  http://www.slcpd.com

We can also call parking enforcement dispatch to deal with parking issues on our street.

Parking dispatch number is 801-535-6628

Steve at CarTow (801-535-6628) can also be contacted. He has been willing to tow cars at owners expense.

Brent Anderson, along with other Club owners, have been attending Neighborhood Watch meetings.

Central City Community council meets on a monthly basis. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month (usually at the SLC library) Check out SLC Central Community Council online. Residents of the Club are encouraged to be involved.

We can work together with the police department to improve our neighborhood. We need their help and they also need ours.

Please send photos or any other pertinent info on happenings on our street (drug deals or anything else you see) to Detective Marie Stewart. Direct evidence such as this is needed get results.

She is our Salt Lake City District 4 representative

Eva has been working with the Magnolia across the street and is opposed to any expansion of this facility.

Nearby 7-l1 is being held more accountable. The city is looking at possible ban of plastic grocery type bags and single use plastic cups to reduce trash, etc.

Another project is trying to get buildings to the north of us up to code.
